Paul Joseph Stadtler Sr.
MEMORIAL







Paul Joseph Stadtler, Sr., 86, past President of Metropolis Federal Savings and
Loan, and native Washingtonian, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at his home in
Washington, D.C. from congestive heart failure.

After attending
St. John''s College High School, Paul was drafted into the Army
in 1943 and served as a surgical technician in Northern France during WWII and
was awarded numerous decorations for his service. Upon his return home Paul
worked as a teller for Metropolis Building Association in Washington, D.C.

In 1978 he was promoted to President of Metropolis Federal Savings and Loan
and after merging with Interstate Federal, he served as Sr. Vice President until his
retirement in 1983.

Mr. Stadtler was active in the business and local communities in Washington. He
served as President of the Financial Managers Society for Savings Institutions, was
a member of the Metropolis Service Corporation, Treasurer of the Friendship
Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council of the Catholic Youth
Board, Director of the Catholic Youth Organization, and Treasurer of the St.
Ann''s Home and School Association for 22 years. He was a member of St. Ann''s
Parish in Tenleytown where he was active for many years in both the church and
school.

Mr. Stadtler was preceded in death by his father and mother, John H. and
Margaret Walmsley Stadtler and his brother, John W. Stadtler. He is survived by
his wife of 61 years, Grace O''Connor Stadtler; nine children, Suzanne Hicks
(Joe), Christine Kernan (Jim), Rosemary Emmell (Tim), Paul, Jr., Barbara Meyer
(Ross), Elizabeth Donlan (Bob), Maureen, Terrence (Holly), Patricia Warren
(Jeff); 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy M. Shea and
Margaret Louise Vondran and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 3 at St. Ann''s Church and he
was laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
