

MICHAEL DANIEL VEITH
Michael Daniel Veith, age 60, of Ocean View, Delaware passed away
December 14, 2011 after a year- long battle with cancer. Michael was born on
October 22, 1951 in Washington D.C. to Anthony Joseph Veith and Ann Marie
Scanlon Veith. He attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated
from St. John's College High School, class of 1970, where he excelled in
academics, football, and baseball.
Mike is survived by his wife Mercedes of 37 years and eight children: Michael
and wife, Allison; Matthew and wife Melissa, granddaughter, Emily; Jacob;
Elizabeth and husband, Jordan; Patrick and granddaughter, Kaidence; Ann and
fiancé, James; Daniel; and Thomas. Mike is also survived by 6 brothers and 9
sisters.
Mike and Mercedes moved to Southern Delaware in 1981 where he spent his
time devoted to his family, the Lord, and the land. Mike was a catechist since
1982 at St. Ann's Catholic Church and served in the capacity of manager or
umpire for the Lower Sussex Little League from 1987-2010. He owned a
landscaping and masonry business, Earth Designs, where he expressed his
knowledge for plants and his attention to detail.
A Viewing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 16 at Melson's
Funeral Home in Ocean View, Delaware. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at
10:30 am Saturday, December 17 at St. Ann's Catholic church, Bethany Beach,
Delaware. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro,
Delaware.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Michael D. Veith Memorial
Fund to honor Mikes love and devotion to the Lower Sussex Little League in
Delaware and St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. This fund will
help to plant two trees in Mike's honor and will also help with continued support of
