Matthew J. McNellis, 43, owner of a Rockville sheet metal and roofing company, died Feb. 16 at his home in
Germantown. A spokesman for the Maryland medical examiner's office said tests are being conducted to determine the
cause of death.
Mr. McNellis owned and operated his eponymous company for about 20 years, specializing in copper, tin and slate
materials.
Matthew John McNellis was born in Huntsville, Ala., and grew up in Potomac. He attended St. Johns College High
School in Washington and Montgomery College before he went into the roofing and sheet metal field and started his
business. He was a member of the National Federation of Independent Business.
Survivors include his parents, James and Gloria McNellis of New Bern, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Helen McNellis of
Minneapolis; and four sisters.
