Joseph P. McDermott Sr.

JOSEPH PATRICK McDERMOTT, SR. Joseph Patrick McDermott, Sr. 90 died June 11, 2009. A native of Washington,
DC and 36 year resident of Nettles Island, FL. Born in Washington, DC, the 6th of 10 children, graduating from
St.
John's College High School,
a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. He was a firefighter for 23 years
with the Washington, DC Fire Department, Local #36 when he retired as a Battalion Fire Chief in 1970. He was preceded
in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Regina (nee Jarboe). Survivors include Joseph P. Jr. (Gail), James E. (Kathleen),
Richard A. (Emma), Elizabeth Rossiter (Leo) and Judith Harrigan (John Yocum), 15 grandchildren, 12 great
grandchildren, and one sister Angela Sherman. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 3628
Rhode Island Avenue, Mt. Rainier, MD 20712. Services, Christian Burial Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres
Catholic Church, Jensen Beach, Florida on June 27 at 10:30 a.m.

McDERMOTT JOSEPH P. McDERMOTT The members of the DC Fire Fighters Association, Local #36 and the Retired
Firefighters of Washington regret to announce the death of retired Brother JOSEPH P. McDERMOTT on June 11, 2009.
Brother McDERMOTT was appointed to the Department on March 20, 1947 to Engine Company 16 and retired on July
1, 1971 as a Battalion Fire Chief in the 8th Battalion. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10:30
a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Jensen Beach, FL.
