

Obituary: John J. ‘Jerry’ Taylor,
nuclear specialist, dies at 87

John J. ‘Jerry’ Taylor, nuclear specialist.
John J. “Jerry” Taylor, 87, a specialist in the employment and targeting of
nuclear weapons as a civilian employee of the Army Corps of Engineers, died Jan.
6 at his home in Bethesda.
He had a stroke, his son, Steve Taylor, said.
John Jerrold Taylor was born in Tulsa and moved to the Washington area as
a child. He graduated from St. John’s College High School and served in the
Army in Europe during World War II. His unit helped liberate the Nazi
concentration camp at Dachau, Germany, his family said. He received the Bronze
Star Medal.
After the war, Mr. Taylor began his civilian career with the Corps of
Engineers. He analyzed radiological fallout, potential civilian casualties, nuclear
deterrence and other topics. He attended the Army’s Command and General Staff
College.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Bethesda.
His wife of 30 years, Louise C. Lobush Taylor, died in 1982. Survivors
include two children, Steven C. Taylor of Silver Spring and Christine C. Taylor of
Mount Airy, Md.; and five grandchildren.
