| George Chris Chapin, 67, a fixture in Washington musical theater who also worked in real estate, died April 3 after a heart attack. | ||||||
| Mr. Chapin, a Laytonsville resident, collapsed at Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Bethesda, where he served on the parish council and produced Christmas shows. He was pronounced dead at Suburban Hospital. | ||||||
| He was a native Washingtonian and a 1956 graduate of St. John's College High School, where he played varsity football and basketball and co-founded a musical group called the Singing Sergeants. | ||||||
| He attended the University of Maryland, where he was involved in musical theater, and spent eights years as a Marine Corps reservist. | ||||||
| He was part of the founding cast of the Burn Brae Dinner Theatre in Burtonsville, where he had leading roles in West Side Story and other shows; performed in Camelot and other presentations with the American Light Opera Company; spent the 1970s and early 1980s touring as the lead singer with a show band that played hotels and nightclubs nationwide; and co-founded the Broadway & Beyond revue at Pulcinella restaurant in McLean in the late 1990s. | ||||||

| Mr. Chapin held a variety of jobs, including owning and operating a carryout called Ferdinand's in Washington in the 1960s. | ||||||
| During the 1990s, he was variously a real estate agent for Merrill Lynch and Re/Max; a manager of W.C. & A.N. Miller Cos. offices in Washington and North Potomac; and a training manager and recruiter for Coldwell Banker in Montgomery County. | ||||||
| His marriage to Patricia Balanis Chapin ended in divorce. | ||||||
| Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Glenda Rosenbloom Chapin of Laytonsville; three children from his first marriage, Chris G. Chapin of Los Angeles, Martina Thurneysen of Boerne, Tex., and Marian Williams of Rockville; his mother, Martina Chapin of Chevy Chase; a sister, Vivian Tuerk of Fairfax; and two granddaughters. | ||||||
