Eugene Edward FitzGerald, 70, a retired Amtrak manager, died of complications of lung cancer March 15 at a hospital in Marrero, La., where he lived.
Mr. FitzGerald, a native Washingtonian and graduate of    St. John's College High School  and American University, worked for Amtrak most of his career and was based in Washington until 1979.
He moved to New Orleans that year and continued to work for the railroad until retiring in 2002.
His first wife, Molly FitzGerald, died in 1982. His second wife, Sharon FitzGerald, died in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda FitzGerald of Marrero; a daughter from his first marriage, Shawn FitzGerald of Metairie, La.; a brother, Michael J. FitzGerald of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Kathleen A. FitzGerald of Gaithersburg; and two grandchildren.
