FRIEDA M. SOUTHERN (Age 84)  
January 1, 1934 – September 9, 2018

A former U.S. Customs Service employee from 1951 to 1958, died on September 9, 2018.

She resided in Annandale, VA. She was a
1951 graduate of St. Cecilia's Academy, and a
1990 graduate of Education for Parish Service at Trinity College, both of Washington, DC.

Mrs. Southern also attended George Mason University. She served as a volunteer with the
Arlington Diocesan Pro-Life Committee, Virginia Right to Life, Northern Coalition for Human
Life, Virginia Society for Human Life, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fairfax Hospital, Offender
Aid and Restoration of Fairfax, VA, Northern Virginia Training School, Lake Braddock
Secondary School, W.T. Woodson High School, Special Olympics and Canterbury Woods
Elementary School.

She completed graduate studies at the Institute of Children's Literature, West Redding, CT, in
April 2006. Mrs.

Southern is survived by Helen Mayberry (Keith), Denny Southern (Roxanne), Paul Southern,
Michael Southern (Christine); ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11 a.m., at Holy
Spirit Catholic Church, 8800 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003.

Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.
