Vivian S. Pemberto

Vivian S. Pemberton, 85, an executive assistant at the State Department, died of renal failure Feb. 19 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in
Annapolis. She lived in Edgewater.
Mrs. Pemberton was born in Washington and graduated from  Roosevelt High School and the Washington School for Secretaries. She
went to work for the State Department in 1946, and during the last 15 years of her career was the right-hand person of the three-star
general in the inspector general's office. She retired in 1988.
Mrs. Pemberton enjoyed cruises, water aerobics, entertaining, gardening and shopping. She was a member of Ashton United Methodist
Church near Gaithersburg.
Her marriage to Francis S. Dunigan ended in divorce. Her second husband, Richard B. Pemberton, died in 1983.
Survivors include a son from her first marriage, Dennis Brian Pemberton of Edgewater; a daughter from her second marriage, Dianne B.
Pemberton of Edgewater; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
