Shirley L. Barr, 87, a Washington area resident since 1935 and a longtime
member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, died Feb. 28 of
cardiovascular disease at her home in Potomac. Her death was confirmed by her
husband, Dr. J. Frederick Barr.

Shirley Louise Mann was born in Williamsport, Pa., and came to Washington as
a child. She was a 1942 graduate of the District’s
Theodore Roosevelt High
School
and attended George Washington University and GWU medical school.

A daughter, Meredith L. Barr, died in 1976.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Dr. J. Frederick Barr of Potomac; a
daughter, Amy E. Press of Sarasota, Fla.; four brothers, John William Mann of
Chicago, James P. Mann of Dumfries, Robert U. Mann of Los Angeles and
David L. Mann of Loudon, Tenn.; a sister, Carol Thomas of New Smyrna
Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
