Shirlee F. Harris, 83, an art instructor who taught classes through the
Montgomery County recreation and parks agencies from 1973 to 1995, died
March 17 at Potomac Valley Nursing and Wellness Center in Rockville. She had
dementia.
Earlier in her career, Mrs. Harris taught art classes at the YMCA in
Bethesda. From 1960 to 2003, she had been a Silver Spring resident.Shirlee
Friedman, a native Washingtonian, was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt High
School. During the late 1940s she attended what was then the Corcoran School
of Art.
Her husband of 44 years, Fred O. Harris, died in 1992. Survivors include
two sons, Richard A. Harris of Brookeville and Lawrence E. Harris of
Germantown; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
