Robert L. Taylor
ROBERT L. TAYLOR (Age 85) Of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away
peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving
family.

He was born in Alexandria, VA on Thursday, September 24, 1925, son of the
late Arthur and Virginia (Green) Taylor.

After graduating from the
Roosevelt High School, Washington, DC, in 1943 he
entered the U.S. Marine Corps serving until 1946.

He later attended George Washington University. A resident of Rehoboth Beach
for the past 25 years, Robert moved from Annandale, VA after a 37 year career
with Washington Gas & Light Company retiring as the Virginia State Manager in
1985.

He was a lobbyist for various organizations during the Virginia General Assembly
from 1985 to1988. He was also Manager of Community Services with
responsibilities for matters such as community relations in the Metropolitan
Washington area, corporate contributions, and educational programs for energy
conservation, He also served on the Board of Directors for the following
organizations: National Conference of Christians and Jews, National Capital Area
Region, Annandale United Methodist Church, United Way, National Capital
Area, and the Y.M.C.A. Metropolitan Area, He also donated his time to many
other organizations including but not limited to: Fairfax County Human Rights
Commission, Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach/Lewes Meals
on Wheels, Rehoboth Beach Lions Club, Potomac Area Council Camp Fire
Girls, President of the Country Club of Fairfax, Downtown Club of Richmond
and the Fairfax League of Women Voters.

Robert was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and was an avid
golfer. He was a very giving man who gave of his time for his community; he
had a great sense of humor; and will be missed by his family, friends, and those
he served so tirelessly.

Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris (Oakley) Taylor; a daughter,
Virginia Dugge and her husband, William of Rehoboth Beach; one grandson,
Robert Johnson of Rehoboth Beach; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at
Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth
Beach, with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Baker officiating.

The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the services at 10
a.m. Interment will be private at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach,
DE.
