| Robert Bob Kirkland, 82, who worked as a land surveyor for the D.C. government for almost 35 years, died Jan. 10 at Montgomery General Hospital. He had dementia, sepsis and pneumonia. |

| A native Washingtonian, Mr. Kirkland attended Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School before being drafted into the Navy. He was assigned to a crash boat based at Balboa Island in California and spent time launching radio-controlled drones. The drones were used for gunnery practice for convoys heading across the Pacific. |

| After World War II, he returned to Washington and began working in the D.C. Surveyor's Office. He retired in 1978. |

| Mr. Kirkland and his wife moved to Glen Isle on the South River near Annapolis, where they lived for 17 years and enjoyed boating and other water activities. They moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring in 2004. |

| Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maureen Kirkland of Silver Spring; three children, Mike Kirkland of Rockville, Susan Kirkland of Wheaton and Ann Pulley of Damascus; a brother, Bill Kirkland of Kensington; and five grandchildren. |
