Ralph Duvall Sherwood, 86, a retired senior program analyst with the Internal Revenue Service, died Nov. 10 of cardiovascular
disease at Suburban Hospital. He was a longtime Silver Spring resident.
Born in the District, Mr. Sherwood graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1938 and Benjamin Franklin University
(now part of George Washington University) in 1940. In the early 1940s, he worked briefly for the Palais Royal department store
and for the Labor Department. During World War II, he was in the Army Air Forces, stationed in London.
After the war, he joined the Internal Revenue Service and worked for 28 years as an accountant, auditor, systems analyst and
senior program analyst. After his retirement in 1973, he divided his time between Silver Spring and Hallandale, Fla. He enjoyed
golf, reading and sports.
His first wife, Helen Sherwood, died in 1977.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Laura Scaffidi of Silver Spring; and two daughters from his first marriage, Susan
Sherwood of Gaithersburg and Janet Sherwood of Midland, Mich.
