Quay Chatham Raum

Quay Chatham Raum, 85, a former Arlington elementary school teacher, died of coronary artery disease Feb. 18, 2005 at Goodwin House West in Falls Church.
Mrs. Raum taught at a number of private elementary schools in the Washington area before she turned to the public schools in Arlington, where she taught at Barrett Elementary and Woodmont Elementary schools. She retired in the mid-1970s.
Born in New York City, she moved to the Washington area as a child and graduated from Roosevelt High School in the District in 1936. She graduated from New York University, and received a master's degree in education from Syracuse University about 1940.
She joined the Marine Corps during World War II and remained a member of the Women Marines Association throughout her life.
For more than 50 years, she was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Arlington, where she served with the vestry. She was president of the Region III Episcopal Church Women Association, was a foster parent and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the American Heart Association.
Her husband, Raymond B. Raum Sr., died in 1986.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond B. Raum Jr. of Lorton and James S. Raum of Falls Church; a daughter, Nancy Q. Raum of Vienna; a foster child, Marilyn Cornish of Baltimore; and a granddaughter.
