Marjorie Evelyn Imlay, 75, who was the longtime assistant to the director of the Carnegie Institution of Washington's Geophysical
Laboratory, died Sept. 3 at Sibley Memorial Hospital of cardiac arrest and internal bleeding. She lived in Brookmont.
Ms. Imlay was a Washington native and a graduate of Roosevelt High School. She joined the Geophysical Laboratory in 1955
as a stenographer and later became head secretary. From 1986 until her retirement last year, she was the assistant to three of
the laboratory's directors.
She organized the laboratory's postdoctoral program, served as unofficial photographer and helped mentor young scientists
and staff members.
Survivors include a sister.
