John N. ‘Jack’ Lyon, Federal Reserve official

     John N. “Jack” Lyon, 90, who retired from the Federal Reserve as assistant
director of the division of supervision and regulation, died May 25 at Riderwood
Village retirement community in Silver Spring after a stroke.

     Mr. Lyon spent 36 years at the Federal Reserve before retiring in 1977. At
the division of supervision and regulation, he helped develop regulatory policy
and oversee supervision of state member banks and other financial institutions.

     John Nolon Lyon was a native Washingtonian and a 1939 graduate of
Roosevelt High School. He attended Northwestern and Rutgers universities.

     Mr. Lyon served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was a
pitcher and played on a Navy baseball team as well as several baseball leagues in
the District.

     He moved to Riderwood from Brookeville about a decade ago. He was a
member of the Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Katherine Killeen Lyon of Silver Spring;
and two daughters, Nancy Spruill of Arlington and June Chelf of Muscatine,
Iowa.
