George A. Christy, 86, a retired professor of finance at the University of North Texas, died Dec. 18 at his home in Denton, Tex.
He had cancer.
A native Washingtonian, Dr. Christy graduated from Roosevelt High School and Georgetown University. After receiving a
master's degree in economics at the University of Illinois in 1942, he joined the Army and served in the Signal Corps and the
Army Air Forces as a paratrooper.
After World War II, he returned to Chicago and worked for Illinois Bell, then moved to St. Louis and Dallas, where he worked for
telephone companies.
He received a doctoral degree in finance in 1962 from the University of Texas at Austin and began a life in academia at the
University of Oregon and, from 1965 to 1990, at the University of North Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Kerr Christy of Denton; a son, Gordon Christy of Jackson, Miss. and three grandchildren.
