Edward Earl Brooks

EDWARD EARL BROOKS  

      Edward Earl Brooks, 90, of Montross, VA passed away on January 5,
2012. Born February 20, 1921 to Jesse and Naomi Brooks her was raised in
Washington, DC, graduated from
Roosevelt HS and was attending Benjamin
Franklin University Night School when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred.
Enlisting the USMC in January 1942, he served with the 1st Marine Division on
Guadalcanal, New Britain and Peleliu, where he was wounded in action and
decorated for Valor in these campaigns.

      After the war he married and had two sons, Warren and Michael. He
served at the Marine Barracks, at 8th and I St. and was on the Presidential
Honor Guard. In Korea, he again served with the 1st Marine Division a Pusan,
Inchon, Seoul and the Chosin Campaigns where he was commissioned as a 2nd
Lt. He again served in Viet Nam in 1965 with the 3rd Division, retiring from the
Corps in 1968. He was a Regional Blood Donation Director for the American
Red Cross before moving to Montross in 1982.

      At his death he was a member of the BPOE #2666, Colonia Beach, and a
Charter Member of the Potomac Chapter, MOAA. Predeceased by son,
Michael; Earl is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, Son, Warren Brooks (Linda)
of Silver Spring, MD; granddaughter, Sharon Clarida (Doug) of Atlanta, GA.
Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Marina Ashton; sister-in-law, Katherine
Brooks, Bethesda, MD; and numerous close nieces and nephews.

      The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January
11, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel with an Elks Memorial
Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January
12, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Colonial Beach, with Father Francis
Derosa officiating. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
