Dolores Ethel Morganston Allen

 DOLORES ETHEL ALLEN Of Takoma Park, MD., died peacefully the
morning of March 23, 2010 at Hillhaven Nursing and Rehab in Beltsville, Md.
She was 87 years of age.

Born Dolores Ethel Morganston to Ethel and Charles Morganston in The District
on February 12, 1923, she was a ninth-generation Washingtonian who lived in
the area nearly her entire life.

She attended
Roosevelt High School before graduating from George
Washington University with a degree in Spanish Literature just after World War
Two.

After marrying her Marine sweetheart, Thomas Franklin Allen, they settled in
Takoma Park where Tom worked for NASA and Dolores raised a family. Their
marriage ended in divorce after 21 years. She did not remarry.

In her later years she became involved with Glenwood Cemetery in Washington,
D.C., becoming a member of the Board of Directors and energetically supporting
improvements to the facilities.

She was also active in various local civic affairs and a generous supporter of pet
rescue organizations.

Towards the end of her life, ill health stole her mobility and she was no longer
able to live at home.

She is predeceased by her parents, her former husband and one son, Charles B.
Allen, and is survived by one son, Morgan Allen of Adamstown, MD, one
daughter, Alice Rian Simon of Beltsville, MD and a nephew, Wesley Rian of
Beltsville.

Services will be held at The Glenwood Cemetery Chapel, 2219 Lincoln Road,
N.E., Washington, D.C. on Saturday, May 1 at 1 p.m. Interment will be
immediately after the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to The
Montgomery County Humane Society, 14645 Rothgeb Drive, Rockville, Md.
