
CHARLES S. ARTLEY "Art" (Age 87)
On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, of Arlington, VA. Born in Muncy, PA
in 1923 to Brady and Mary Artley and moved with his family to Washington,
DC where he attended Roosevelt High School.
He joined the USMC during WWII where he served as Corporal in the
Pacific rim until 1945.
Upon returning to the city, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Heiss
Artley, on June 5, 1948 and after their first child was born, relocated to
Arlington, VA, settling on farm land that had once belonged to his mother's
family.
Art served as a US Marshall for 32 years; the last years spent as Marshall to
Judge John J. Sirica during the Watergate trials.
Beloved husband of Dorothy for 63 years; father to Bob, Tom, Janet
(Brown) and Steve. Loving grandfather to Tristan, George, Ben, Eric, Paige and
Emma. Art will be remembered for his loving devotion to family and to his wife,
especially during the last few years of their lives together, as he cared for her in
her illness.
Friends will be received on Sunday, November 6, 2011 between 5 to 7 p.m.
at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA.
