Charles R. Lasham, 85, who retired in 1980 from what became the Department of Health and Human Services as director of the property
management office, died Jan. 1 at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. He had dementia and anemia.
Mr. Lasham spent much of his career as an auditor for federal agencies including the State Department, the Federal Aviation Administration
and the Food and Drug Administration. He spent the 1970s with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, which became HHS.
Charles Richard Lasham was born in Washington and attended Coolidge High School before joining the Navy during World War II and
serving in the Pacific.
After the war, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in the District and received bachelor's and master's degrees in commercial science
from Southeastern University.
He lived in Silver Spring before moving to Asbury Methodist Village a few years ago. He was a ham radio operator, and he enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alberta Lockhead Lasham of Gaithersburg.
