Blaine H. Eig, 88, who had a private internal medicine and cardiology practice in
Silver Spring from 1952 to 1996, died May 19 at his home in Rockville. He had
congestive heart failure.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Eig was a co-founder of the medical staff at Silver
Spring's Holy Cross Hospital in 1963 and was the first chairman of the
department of medicine. He was president of the Holy Cross medical staff in the
late 1960s. He was a medical consultant to the State Department in the 1960s.
Blaine Herbert Eig, the son of developer Sam Eig, was a native Washingtonian
and a 1939 graduate of Roosevelt High School. He graduated from
Georgetown University medical school in the mid-1940s. He was an Army
veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
His past memberships included B'nai Israel Congregation, a Conservative
synagogue, and Woodmont Country Club, both in Rockville.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Birnman "Bette" Eig of
Rockville; six sons, Wayne Eig of Bethesda, Michael Eig and Dr. Mark Eig, both
Chevy Chase, and Keith Eig, Dr. Blair Eig and Jonathan Eig, all of Potomac; 15
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
