Barbara Warren Larson, 89, a longtime Washington area elementary school
teacher who spent the past 24 years of her career working in Montgomery
County public schools, died June 7 at Renaissance Gardens at Riderwood, a
Silver Spring nursing home. She had Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Larson retired in 1983 as the assistant principal at Diamond Elementary
School in Gaithersburg. She previously taught at Kemp Mill Elementary and at
schools in the District and Prince George's County.
Barbara Barnes was born and grew up in Washington. She graduated from
Roosevelt High School and Wilson Teachers College, both in the city. She
received a master's degree in education from American University in 1962.
She worshiped for many years at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in
Adelphi. More recently, she was a member of the Protestant congregation at
Riderwood Chapel in Silver Spring.
Her marriage to Alvin C. Warren ended in divorce.
Survivors include her husband, John A. Larson of Silver Spring; three children
from her first marriage, Alvin C. Warren Jr. of Cambridge, Mass., Robyn A.
Simmons of Alexandria and Ramona L. Adams of New London, Pa.; a stepson,
Wayne Shepherd of Arnold; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
