A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 16, 2013, at Drinkwine Family Mortuary, 999 W.
Littleton Blvd. in Littleton. A reception will be held following
the service at Betty's home in Bailey. Burial will be at 11
a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Pleasant Park Cemetery in
Conifer.
Betty was born in Washington, D.C. She graduated from
Theodore Roosevelt High School (1940. After high
school, she worked at Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Co.
She married her high school sweetheart, John A. Stone,
on Sept. 16, 1944. They were married and stayed in love
for 64 years. She and John moved to Colorado in 1958,
and have lived there ever since. She and John built their dream home, an authentic
log house, in Bailey. She lived there happily for 33 years.
The highlights of her life were her five children: Mathew, Sarah, Timothy, Tom and
Jenny, who she loved dearly.
Known as "Mother Nature," she loved all animals, domestic pets and wildlife. She
routinely took in strays and faithfully fed the deer, birds, squirrels, chipmunks,
raccoons and foxes who came to visit her daily (peanut butter sandwiches). On
occasion, she inadvertently provided lunch to a passing bear. She enjoyed oil
painting, sewing and reading. She highly disliked daylight-saving time and rebelled
by refusing to change her clocks.
During her life she enjoyed camping with the family. She traveled throughout the U.S.
and especially enjoyed her trips to Europe with her husband, John. She was very
active in her church, teaching Sunday school from cradle roll through high school.
She lost her husband in March 2006. Since then, she drew close to Jesus Christ,
who cared for her 'til she graduated into his kingdom on Dec. 9, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Willard Minard; her husband,
John A Stone; and her children Timothy and Tom Stone.
She is survived by her brother Clyde Minard; three children Matt, Sarah and Jenny;
five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She had many friends whom she loved dearly, and she made friends with everyone
she met. She never complained, and was grateful for her many blessings until the
day she died. She said that she was thankful for a good, long life, was lucky to spend
most of it with the love of her life, and that she had been blessed in countless ways.
She had many pets throughout her life, the last being two cats, Buddy and Pewter,
who provided her great comfort.
