

William Francis "Bill" Farquhar

William Francis Farquhar William Francis "Bill" Farquhar, age 95, of
Bristow, passed away January 4th, 2011 at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital.
Born September 30th, 1915 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Arthur
Farquhar, Sr., and Julia Brooke Farquhar. On December 27th, 1949 in
Norfolk, Va., he married the former Margaret Virginia WanDelken, who
preceded him in death.
Simply known to his family and friends as Bill, he graduated from Gonzaga
High School in Washington, D.C. and later attended college in West Virginia.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II,
with the Battery B, 237th AAA in the South Pacific, and because of Bill's
leadership following the War, the Batter B Company, was one of the only
groups that continued to meet annually. This reunion was held several times in
the Manassas area.
Bill began his career as an Athletic Director on August 1st, 1940 at Linton
Hall School, and proudly served in this capacity for over 70 years. He also
taught English as a second language, and conducted many summer camps
over his years of service. He was a faithful member of the Manassas Host
Lions Club, where he was a Life and Charter member from the club
beginnings on July 26th, 1947. He was the Past President of the club from
1953 to 1954, Committee Chairman for the Groundhog Supper from 1993 to
1995; he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the Club's Tail
Twister from 1995 to 2010; and the Advisor of the Linton Hall Leo Club from
its inception. Bill was the last remaining Charter Member of the Knights of
Columbus, George Brent Council, #5332. Bill took his First Degree on April
4, 1961. He was Grand Knight from 1963 to 64, and was the past Faithful
Navigator of Commodore John Barry Assembly. He was a mentor of many
past Grand Knights and Past Faithful Navigators. He taught two generations
of Knight's the importance of living life according to the tenants of our faith,
and as an Oblate of St. Benedict to live life according to The Rule of Benedict.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur "Butch" Farquhar.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Rosemary Farquhar of Linden; and two
grandchildren, Angela Render Page and her husband Brian of North Carolina;
and Charles A. Render of Bristow; and one nephew, Edward A. Farquhar of
Manassas.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 from 1 to 8
p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville
Road, Manassas, where a Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral
home chapel. At Bill's request, there will also be a period of time for
Storytelling during the Wake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on
Monday, January 10th, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the William Farquhar Sports
Center, 9535 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, Va. The family will receive friends
for a second visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will immediately
follow in the Benedictine Sisters' Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Linton Hall
School, the Manassas Host Lions Club, the Saint Benedict Monastery, or the
Knights of Columbus, George Brent Council #5332. Arrangements have been
