

Thomas Matthew O'Brien, 72, passed away peacefully on January 23,
2012 with his wife Cathy by his side. He had cancer.
Tom was born in Washington DC on February 8, 1939 and lived in
Washington and the suburbs of Maryland his entire life. Tom graduated from
Gonzaga College HS in 1956. Tom was a member of the Varsity Basketball
Team and won the Catholic League Championship in 1956. After high school,
Tom became a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 100. Tom spent 53
years with Local 100, most of the time with Stromberg Sheet Metal. Tom was
a Project Manager on many prominent jobs throughout the region; Union
Station restoration and National Airport expansion are just a few.
Tom and Cathy were married on February 15, 1958. Tom believed being
married to Cathy was his one of his greatest accomplishment in life.
Tom's hobbies included the history of the Civil War and WWII, gun
collecting, cooking, quilting, antiquing, boating, cross word puzzles and
watching Jeopardy.
Tom's survivors include wife Cathy, and three children, Sharon of
Waldorf, MD, Bonnie, Clinton, MD, Thomas, Huntingtown, MD; and seven
grandchildren.
