Thomas Michael Kolb Sr., 75, a former vice president for Marriott who owned a business in Florida for eight years until retiring in
1996, died Dec. 14 of congestive heart failure at his home in Leisure World in Silver Spring.
He was born in Evanston, Ill., grew up in Chevy Chase and graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1950. He served in
the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 and spent two years in Korea. He received a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University
School of Foreign Service in 1957.
After college, Mr. Kolb worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. before joining Marriott. He spent 12 years with the company and
became vice president of real estate for Junior Hot Shoppes and Roy Rogers outlets. He was owner of TK Consulting Services
in Bethesda for five years. He moved to New Smyrna, Fla., where he owned American Banner before returning to the
Washington area.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Order of the
Alhambra.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Madonna Ruth Kolb of Silver Spring; seven children, Tracey Speelmans of Germantown,
Tama M. Hobbs of Rockville, Trinity Saward of Brewster, N.Y., Tara Heon of Kensington, Thomas M. Kolb Jr. of Daytona Beach,
Fla., Tina Kolb Diaz of Cambridge, Mass., and Toni Grimsley of Mount Airy, Md.; a brother, James E. Kolb of Rockville; 13
grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
