Robert J. Corbey Sr., 82, who spent more than 20 years as a Commerce Department human resources specialist until his retirement in
1988, died Sept. 9 at Brooke Grove nursing home in Sandy Spring from multiple organ failure. Mr. Corbey served in the Marine Corps from
1944 to 1946 and participated in operations in Okinawa and China. He was an agent for New York Life Insurance before joining the
federal government.
Robert Joseph Corbey Sr., a native Washingtonian, graduated from Gonzaga College High School and Catholic University. He lived in
Rockville for 51 years.
His wife of 22 years, Margery Anne Helm Corbey, died in 1975.
Survivors include eight children, Carolyn Scullen of Silver Spring, Patricia Corbey, a nun in the Sisters of the Holy Names of
Jesus and Mary order of Silver Spring, Kathleen Briscoe of Charlotte Hall and Robert J. Corbey Jr., Therese Divita and Colleen
Slattery, all of Rockville, and Michael Corbey and Rosemary Corbey, both of Ocean City; 13 grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
