Michael O. Nolan Sr., 78, a former high school star athlete who retired in 1993 as a sales executive with the Joseph M. Zamoiski Co., an appliance
wholesaler, died Nov. 11 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He had esophageal cancer.
Mr. Nolan worked for 38 years for Zamoiski, where he became vice president of sales for its Zenith television division. In retirement, he split time between
homes in Annapolis and Pompano Beach, Fla., where he enjoyed handicapping horse races.
Michael Owen Nolan was born in Washington and graduated in 1950 from Gonzaga College High School, where he was named All-Met in football and
basketball. He played football while attending George Washington University and from 1957 to 1969 was an assistant football coach at Archbishop John
Carroll High School in the District.
In 1989, he was inducted into the Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame for his own accomplishments and again in 1999 as a member of the 1949 Catholic League
championship football team. While at Gonzaga, the District's Touchdown Club awarded Mr. Nolan a trophy for most outstanding prep player of the year.
A daughter, Catherine "Cappy" Nolan, died in 1974.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen O'Brien Nolan of Annapolis; five children, Michael O. Nolan Jr. of Olney, Eileen Carbonell of Gaithersburg,
Maureen Haynos of Rockville, and Sharon Conrad and Karen Hanlon, both of Silver Spring; two sisters, Catherine Glancy of Towson and Marie Searles of
Massena, N.Y.; a brother, John Nolan of Rockville; and 14 grandchildren.
