Daniel Joseph Dent

Daniel Joseph Dent, 67, a retired mechanical engineer with Girard Engineering in Falls Church, died April 6 of
pancreatic cancer at the Casey House hospice in Rockville. He was a Bethesda resident.

Mr. Dent was born in Chevy Chase and graduated from  
Gonzaga College High School in 1959. He received a
bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Catholic University in 1965 and worked with the engineering firms of
Bernard Johnson Engineering Inc., Bechtel Inc. and George W. Campbell & Associates before joining Girard
Engineering in 1985.

He was a principal at Girard and head of the mechanical and plumbing departments before retiring in 2008.

He was a member of several professional associations and an active member of the Catholic Shrine of the Most Blessed
Sacrament in the District.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Lewis "Betty" Dent of Bethesda; a daughter, Susan M. Dent of Houston;
his mother, Elizabeth C. Dent of Chevy Chase; two brothers, Edward A. Dent III of the District and Michael Dent of
Kensington; and three sisters, Penelope Driscoll and Patricia Delany, both of Chevy Chase, and Elizabeth Ellis of the
District.
