Charles C. Barcus, 69, a retired Navy officer who later worked as a Defense Department contract negotiator, died Feb. 21 at the National
Naval Medical Center in Bethesda of complications from multiple sclerosis. He had lived in Rockville for 35 years. Mr. Barcus was born in
Washington and graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1956. He was a 1960 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
He had several tours of duty in the Pacific and was a line officer and supply officer. He left the Navy in 1972 with the rank of lieutenant
commander. He then worked with the Defense Department until his retirement in the late 1980s.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rita Somodi Barcus of Rockville; two daughters, Karen Barcus Napolitano of Gaithersburg and Dr.
Mary Barcus of Silver Spring; two brothers, Joseph Michael Barcus of Ocean Pines, Md., and James Walsh Barcus of Greenbelt; two
sisters, Mary Barcus Smith of Annapolis and Anne Barcus Curran of Bowie; and four grandchildren.
