William Irving Diffenderfer Sr.

William I. Diffenderfer Sr., 76, who spent almost 40 years as a
letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in the
1990s, died Sept. 21, 2009 at his home in Frederick of kidney
failure and pulmonary fibrosis.

Mr. Diffenderfer spent much of his career working in the
Colesville area of Montgomery County.

William Irving Diffenderfer was a native Washingtonian and
a graduate of
Eastern High School (1952). He served in the
Army in Germany from 1953 to 1955.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederick and the Masons
.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Blanche Patterson Diffenderfer of Frederick; six
children, Lynn Cummings of Baltimore, William Diffenderfer Jr. of Brunswick, Md.,
Nancy Faith of Mount Pleasant, Md., Leta Sanger of Rohrersville, Md., Stephen
Diffenderfer of Olney and Ericka Diffenderfer of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Margery
David of Silver Spring; and 11 grandchildren.
