Thomas Logan Woolard of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina died
at age 104 on October 31, 2017, at his daughter's home in
He was born in Washington, D.C. on January 18, 1913, the son of Logan L. Woolard
and the former Mary Stella Schweinhaut. Mr. Woolard graduated from Eastern High
Shool in (1931) and the University of Maryland in 1935 with a degree in civil
engineering, and was a firefighter in Washington, D.C. and an engineer for the U.S.
Maritime Commission before moving to Wellsville, New York in 1948.
In Wellsville, Mr. Woolard worked in mechanical engineering at the Air Preheater
Corporation (later Combustion Engineering-Air Preheater) and served as president of
the corporation from 1970 to his retirement in 1978. Among other service to the
community, Mr. Woolard was president of the Board of Education of Wellsville from
1959 to 1964.
With his wife Dorothy Campbell Woolard, Mr. Woolard retired to Briarcliffe Acres in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1981, where he particularly enjoyed gardening,
bridge, and the company of good friends. He spent his last years in La Jolla, California
with his daughter Kathryn (Kit) Woolard and son-in-law Joel Sobel, and Savannah,
Georgia with his daughter Dana Troy and her husband Austin Troy.
Mr. Woolard was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and a son, David.
In addition to his two daughters and their husbands, he is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Andrew and Susan Woolard of Ijamsville, Maryland; four
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A private memorial and scattering of ashes will be planned for a later date.
