Richard (Dick) E. Jones, 82, of Little River, SC went to be with the Lord on October 8, 2017.
Dick was born in Washington DC, the only son of the late George and Stella Jones.
Dick was a Navy Veteran serving as an aviator in the Korean War and later in the Washington, DC Naval Air Reserves. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1953 and the University of Maryland in 1957 and retired from the Naval Surface Weapons Center in White Oak, MD after 35 years of civilian service.
After retirement, he and his wife Pat built their dream home in Little River, SC and moved from suburban Maryland. A man of tremendous strength and kindness his local involvement with area charitable and civic organizations was wide reaching including his work as a local water commissioner and his love and support of his church -Little River United Methodist Church. Dick was also a Mason, a Shriner (including being a Shriner clown), and a Lions Club member and officer at different times in his life. He volunteered with the North Strand Helping Hand and was a long-time supporter of the Epworth Children's Home where he served as a board member and advisor for many years.
Dick is survived by his nephews and niece Alan Myers, Brad Myers, Craig Myers, Doug Myers and Linda Dowling and his wife Inez Young Jones.
He was predeceased by his life-long love Patricia (Myers) Jones and his parents.
A life celebration service will be held at 3:00pm Sunday October 15, 2017 at Little River United Methodist Church with internment to immediately follow the service on the LRMC grounds.
