Betty Lee (Taylor) Sheridan, 90 of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at her home, with her beloved husband, John and family by her side.
Betty was born on March 8, 1925 to Bernerd and Evelyn H. (Lee) Taylor in Washington, DC. She graduated from Eastern High School (1942).
Betty married John Joseph Paul (Jack) Sheridan on February 12, 1944 in Washington, DC and celebrated their 72nd Anniversary last week. Their complete story was printed in the Free Lance Star on their 70th anniversary in the Valentine Day edition. Betty worked as an office manager in sales offices before joining the Montgomery County Board of Education as the secretary of the Construction Department where she retired after 38 years.
Among her hobbies were traveling and golf. She also loved dancing, owning a dance studio in her home and very proud to have been a part of a dance troupe that danced in a Washington, DC parade, where President Roosevelt requested that the troupe, do their routine a second time. She also enjoyed riding horses, which she was doing, when her future husband proposed to her, after she had fallen from the horse. Betty and Jack moved to Fredericksburg in 1991.
Survivors include her husband; John J. "Jack"; two daughters, Linda Lee (Donald) R. Moser and Diane Marie (Jack) Fairbaugh; sister, Marjorie A. White; granddaughter, Doreen (Cris) Leatherwood; great-grandsons, Aaron and Tyler Leatherwood.
Visitation will be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, VA on Wednesday February 24, 2016 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m., Pastor Mike Lemay, officiating.
