Bertha Ola Bush November 04, 1932 - November 06, 2017














Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 6, 2017 after suffering a
hip fracture as the result of a fall.

A native of Washington, DC, she graduated from
Eastern High School, class of
1950,
before spending most of her adult years in Alexandria and Winchester, Virginia.

Bertha was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Floyd and Ola Bertha Jenkins, and
daughter, Nancy Lynn Sharkey.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen E. Bush, and children, Stephen Frederic Bush
(Charlotte), Laura Beth Smith (Bradley) and son-in-law, Daniel J. Sharkey. Also
granddaughters, Megan and Kylie Smith; Fiona and Anneliese Bush; and grandsons,
Adam Smith and Louis, Reid and Samuel Sharkey. She is also survived by many
much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bertha and her husband of 62 years were married at Calvary Baptist Church,
Washington, DC, and were subsequently members of Aldersgate United Methodist
Church (Alexandria) and Braddock St. United Methodist Church (Winchester, VA); and
faithfully attended annual meetings of the Jenkins Baptist Church (Cumberland, VA)
which was founded by her great-great-grandfather.

Bertha reentered the workforce after raising her children and served as a secretary with
the Social Security Administration (20 years) in Alexandria, VA.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Aldersgate United
Methodist, Alexandria, VA.
