FULESDY ALICE LEE FULESDY "Nina" Of Alexandria,
Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving
family on April 24, 2014.
She was born on July 17, 1924 in Washington, DC, daughter
of the late Lewis W. and Ethel M. Sullivan.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Charles
A. Fulesdy; her loving daughter, Carol F. Cordrey and
son-in-law, John H. Cordrey; beloved grandsons, John C.
Cordrey (Lauren Cordrey) and Bryan A. Cordrey (Brittany
Bimbi); many cherished extended family members and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Susan
L. Fulesdy and brother, Lewis W. Sullivan, Jr.
She graduated in 1942 from Eastern High School,
Washington, DC. After graduating, she worked for the British
Army Staff and the Federal Government for the Reconstruction
Finance Corporation.
After raising her family, she worked for the Food and Drug Administration for 17
years, retiring in 1979. After retirement from the Federal Government, she was
employed by George Mason University School of Law.
Since childhood, and throughout her adult life, she was an active member of the
Washington City Church of the Brethren. She served the church in many roles during
her lifetime: co-director of Children's Work, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, acolyte
coordinator, Junior and Senior choirs, altar flower coordinator, prayer chain, and
Dorcus Circle. She was the founder/leader of the local Brownie troop, Girl Scout troop
co-leader, and room mother.
She was an accomplished pianist, talented knitter, and pinochle player, a family
tradition for many years.
She was devoted to her family and friends who will dearly miss her loving presence.
On Monday, August 4, 2014, there will be a visitation at 10:30 a.m., followed by a
service at 12 Noon at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield,
Virginia 22151.
Interment following at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Washington City Church of
the Brethren, 337 North Carolina Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20003.
