William Richard Hollister Sr., 79, who spent 36 years at The Washington Post and retired in 1990 as the newspaper's chief
carpenter, died May 27 at his daughter's home in Stafford. He had Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Hollister was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of Eastern High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
His memberships included the American Legion. His avocations included gardening, and he followed the Washington
Redskins.
He lived in Glenn Dale before moving to Stafford about five years ago.
His wife, Mildred Pavcic Hollister, died in 1997.
Survivors include two children, Diane Carrigan of Stafford and William R. Hollister Jr. of Waldorf; two sisters; and six
grandchildren.
