Robert Linwood Costenbader

Robert L. Costenbader, 75, a retired librarian and supervisor who spent
more than 40 years at the Library of Congress, died April 26 at Villa Rosa
Nursing Home in Mitchellville. He had a stroke.

Mr. Costenbader joined the Library of Congress about 1955 and held
several positions before becoming supervisor of the microform reading
room. He also worked in the library's main reading room, dealing directly
with the public. He retired in 1996.

Robert Linwood Costenbader was born in Colonial Beach, Va., and grew
up in Washington, where he graduated from
Eastern High School. He
served in the Army during the Korean War.

He lived in Mitchellville and was an usher at St. Edward the Confessor
Catholic Church in Bowie. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In his private life, he amassed a collection of thousands of beer cans.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nellie J. Costenbader of Mitchellville;
a son, Charles W. Costenbader of Bowie; and three grandchildren.
