Robert Jackson Clark

   Robert J. Clark, 89, who spent 20 years as an accountant with what
became the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development before
retiring in 1984, died Jan. 7 at Goodwin House retirement community in
Alexandria. He had congestive heart failure.

   Early in his career, Mr. Clark was an accountant for Gelman
Construction. He was a longtime Alexandria resident.
   
   Robert Jackson Clark was born in Durham, N.C., and raised in
Washington, where he was a 1940 graduate of
Eastern High School. He
was a 1948 graduate of Benjamin Franklin University, where he also
received a master's degree in commercial science in 1950.

   He served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

   His marriage to Dorothy "Dotty" Dorfman ended in divorce.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Clark of Reston and Kathleen
Baukin of Fairfax County; a sister; and three grandchildren.
