Philip Rubin

Philip Rubin, 94, who worked as a pharmacist for 30 years in Washington, died of leukemia Feb. 14 at Holy Cross Hospital in
Silver Spring. He lived in Potomac. Mr. Rubin worked at the Petworth Pharmacy, Peoples Drug Store and Providence Hospital
before retiring in 1983. Some of his customers affectionately called him "Doc"  Rubin.
He was born in Boston and grew up in the Washington area. He graduated from  Eastern High School in the District and
received a PhG, a graduate degree in pharmacy, from George Washington University in 1934.
He was a former resident of Bethesda. His wife of 40 years, Lillia Rubin, died in 1977.
A stepdaughter from his second marriage, Gloria Ellis, died in 2007.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Frances Rubin of Potomac; two daughters from his first marriage, Sandra Kagen of
Potomac and Diana Gotkin of Northbrook, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Anita Haven of Bel Air, Md.; nine grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren.
