Morris Kolker, 81, a longtime Washington liquor store manager, died Oct. 1 of cardiovascular disease at his home in Silver
Spring.
Mr. Kolker was born in Washington and grew up above a grocery operated by his mother in Southwest Washington. He
graduated from Eastern High School and served in the Army Transportation Corps during World War II.
He drove a truck for a potato chip company for several years before going to work at Columbia Wine Liquor Shop in Northeast
Washington in 1955. He was the manager of the store and became a partial owner before his retirement in 1994.
He was a season ticket holder of the Washington Redskins and was active in his synagogue, Congregation Har Tzeon-Agudath
Achim of Silver Spring.
He enjoyed duckpin bowling and poker and was a member of the Happy Go Lucky Sunshine Breakfast Club, a group of Jewish
World War II veterans that gathered for weekly meals for more than 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Irene Kolker of Silver Spring; two children, Elaine Kolker Horowitz of Austin and Allan
Kolker of Fairfax County; a sister, Judy Levine of Silver Spring; and two grandchildren.
