Leon Herbert MacGill, 91, a commodity industry analyst who retired in 1973 from the old U.S. Tariff Commission, died June 12 at
his home in Arlington County. He had dementia and a kidney ailment.
Mr. MacGill worked nine years with the Tariff Commission, now called the International Trade Commission.
He spent more than 35 years in federal service, including earlier assignments with the Navy Department, Commerce
Department and the Social Security Board.
He was born in Chicago and raised partly in Washington, where he was a 1934 graduate of Eastern High School and captain of
the rifle team. He was a business administration graduate of George Washington University.
He was a chapter president of American Federation of Government Employees. His hobbies included tennis.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret MacGill of Arlington; and a half brother, Bruce J. MacGill of Springfield.
