John C. Moore, 90, who worked for the Defense Supply Agency from
the early 1960s to early 1970s, died April 24 at Inova Alexandria Hospital
after a heart attack.
At the Defense Supply Agency, his work included provisioning for ships.
He earlier had worked for the Navy Department, part of the time as a
machinist at the Washington Navy Yard.
John Corwin Moore was a native Washingtonian and attended Eastern
High School; he received a GED in his 40s.
He served in the Marine Corps as a dog trainer during World War II.
He was a resident of the Alexandria part of Fairfax County. He was an
umpire in industrial baseball and softball leagues in the area in the 1940s
and 1950s. He also was a Boy Scouts volunteer and a volunteer at
Fairfax County's Huntley Meadows Park, where he led walking groups
and built birdhouses.
He was a past president of the Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock, a fishing
and conservation group. His memberships included the American Legion.
His wife of 66 years, Dorothy Hancock Moore, died in 2007.
Survivors include four sons, John A. Moore of Springfield, Thomas M.
Moore and Daniel T. Moore, both of Woodbridge, and Robert T. Moore
of Newport News, Va.; a brother; 11 grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
