James V. Welch

James V. Welch, 88, a lawyer for the Justice Department, died Oct. 4 at his  Silver Spring home. He had dementia.
Mr. Welch worked for the land and natural resources division of the Justice  Department, from which he retired in 1975. He worked for the agency his entire  career, starting as a messenger in the attorney general's office when he was  still in school.
The native Washingtonian graduated from Eastern High School and  received his law degree in 1942 from the National University School of Law, now  part of George Washington University. During World War II, he served in  counterintelligence forces attached to the Army Air Forces in the Pacific  theater.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Milady N. Welch of Silver Spring;  four children, Jamie B. Jackson of Gaithersburg, John S. Welch of Poolesville,  Joseph M. Welch of North Potomac and James A. Welch of Silver Spring; eight  grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
