Hope Lydia Schmidt Barrett







    


      Hope L. Barrett of Alexandria, VA passed away on February 6, 2012.
Hope was born on September 24, 1933 in Washington, D.C. to the late
Herbert Charles and Lillian MacInnis Schmidt.

      She graduated from
Eastern High School and Wilson Teachers
College. Beloved wife of 54 years of Colonel Michael J. Barrett, Jr.
(USAF, ret.) whom she lovingly supported throughout his military career.
Cherished mother of Valerie, wife of James B. Crowther of San Antonio,
TX; Michael J, Barrett, III, husband of Diane of Warner Robins, GA; and
Cheryl, wife of John H. Hutchison of Aldie, VA. Loving grandmother to
Elizabeth Crowther; Michael IV and Jackie Barrett; and Catie, Lauren,
Tyler and Claire Hutchison. The youngest of six siblings, she is survived
by her sister, Jean Bartley, and her brother, Herbert Raymond (Ray)
Schmidt. She was predeceased by her sisters, Patricia Adams, June Weber
and Faith Van Scoyoc.

      Hope taught high school biology and was later employed at NSA
before devoting her time to her family. In 1984, she returned to work at
the Consumer Product Safety Commission retiring in 2002. She was an
active member of the John Alexander Chapter of the DAR. She will be
truly missed by all who knew her.

      Hope's family will receive friends at Demaine Funeral Home, 520
South Washington St, Alexandria, Wednesday, February 15 from 6 to 8
pm. A service to celebrate Hope's life will be held at Demaine Funeral
Home on Thursday, February 16, 1 pm, followed by a graveside
ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery at 3 pm and a reception at the
Officers Club, Ft. Myer.

      In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hope's memory to the
Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 W. Evergreen Ave., Suite 204,
Chicago, IL, 60642.
