Mr. Hamilton Spencer Carrico, Jr., 82, of Clarksburg, MD and formerly of Forestville, MD died peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Monday, January 23, 2012 at his home. Born August 22, 1929 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Mary Ruth McDaniel and Hamilton Spencer Carrico, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maria Gloria Zammichieli Carrico. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Francis Scott Carrico, one brother and one sister.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Lady of Fatima, Barnesville, MD, The Moose Lodge, Suitland, Maryland. He graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, DC and later received a degree from Benjamin University in Accounting. He served as Seaman 1st Class for the US Navy stationed in Yorktown, VA and Babbit, NV. He was rigorously selected in one of over two thousand individuals to be the first to witness the Atom Bomb to be detonated in Bikini Island. He was a Mine Man who taught school to other prospective Mine Man. He retired from Giant Foods after 43 years of service spent as a Meat Cutter. He enjoyed working with his hands and was an avid reader.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Diane Aldsworth of Clarksburg, MD and Melissa McDermott and husband Sean of North Potomac, MD; three sons, Sonny Carrico and wife Shirley of Ijamsville, MD; Dennis Carrico and wife Cathy of Ijamsville, MD and Chris Carrico of Montclair, NJ; Two sisters, Margaret McDaniel, Louise Odom; eight grandchildren, Sara, Garrett, Scott, Candace, Chrystal, Christian, Lauren, and Kaley; one great-granddaughter, Grace. In addition to his parents and son, he is preceded in death by one sister, Agnes McHargue, and one brother, Irving Gregan.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at Molesworth- Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM and will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Lady of Fatima, 18230 Barnesville, Road, Barnesville, MD 20828. Rev. Monsignor Maury O’Connell will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
