Henry Grafton Harper

H. Grafton Harper, 93, a retired senior vice president at what was one of the area's biggest savings and loan companies, died Dec. 3 at his home in Silver Spring. He had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
He worked for 45 years with Perpetual American Savings Bank, starting as a teller in 1932 and retiring as an executive in 1978.
Mr. Harper, whose first name was Henry, was born in his grandparents' home in Glen Echo and graduated from Eastern High School in the District. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was a tech sergeant stationed in England with the 1145th Military Police Company.
He lived in Arlington before moving to Leisure World in Silver Spring.
His first wife, Mildred Harper, died in 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Harper, whom he married in 1977, of Silver Spring; a stepdaughter from his first marriage, Joyce Noe of Vienna; and a sister.
