Suddenly on Thursday, August 25, 2005. He was born in Washington, D.C.
and graduated from Eastern High School. He was retired from Western
Electric Corp. and Toys-R-Us. He is survived by his loving wife of 51
years, Mary Washington Shaffner. He is also survived by his children,
Pamela Dent, Patricia Mann, Elizabeth Nelson and Lawrence Shaffner;
eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and his sister, Barbara
Thomas. Family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. at EVERLY-WHEATLEY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 W. Braddock Rd.,
Alexandria, VA. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 10
a.m., at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 8009 Ft. Hunt Rd., Alexandria, VA
22308. Interment will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in his name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church,
Attn: New Hymnals.
